The Washington Capitals are hosting Stanford Alumni, friends and family for Alumni Night at the Caps. Please use this link to purchase specially priced tickets directly through our Sales Representative.
Each ticket will include a free Capitals hat available for pick up at the game outside of Section 424 or 409. They will recognize Stanford Alumni on the jumbotron during the game!
You will receive an email purchase confirmation from letsgo@fevo.com immediately after your purchase. Your tickets will become available 24 hours before the scheduled game time. All tickets are mobile. All sales are final.

You are invited to a reception for alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability in conjunction with the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. At the reception, learn more about Stanford Alumni in Climate Tech (Stanford ACTs), a new alumni club for Stanford grads and current students, faculty, and staff interested in tackling the climate crisis through scaling climate tech.

Looking to add some Cardinal red to your holiday?
Join your fellow Stanford alumni to celebrate the holiday season at Wunder Garten for our annual Holiday party. Registration includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and one drink ticket. You may purchase additional subsidized drink tickets in advance. The drink tickets are good for any drinks. You may also purchase drinks yourself at the bar. The venue is located 2 blocks from the NoMa Metro station (Red Line). The event will be in an open tent area with heaters, so dress accordingly.
2024 WDCSA Holiday Party Cardinal Cookie Contest!
Back by popular demand (or at least the tummies and tastebuds of past participants), add flavorful fun to this year's WDCSA Holiday Party by bringing along your favorite holiday cookies, tarts, breads or biscotti. Whether you are dying for an excuse to make that favorite holiday treat or a to try something new you’ve come across but not just for you: invest in some baking soda and sprinkles, and share your success with fellow DMV Cardinal alums! Attendees will be given an opportunity to applaud entries that are the most Festive, Decadent, Unique or Stanford Spirited and their bakers/makers will win a token of holiday love from WDCSA.
Cookie Contestants: please fill out this form by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 10th. We will prepare a mobile ballot for entries we receive for the onsite voting that will determine the winners. Plan to arrive at 6:00pm so we can find a perfect spot for it on our display of goodies. Winners will be announced at 8:00pm!

WDCSA Book Club Corner
Washington DC Book Club Discussion

Meeting at a private home in Tysons Corner, Va.
The book for our January meeting is The book is The Covenant of Water, by Abraham Verghese; Grove Press, 2024, 736 pages. Available as an audiobook or Kindle electronic book, as well as in paper and hardback editions.
This book is set on South India’s Malabar Coast in the early- to mid-20th century. The story follows three generations of a family, each of which loses a member to drowning. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time. The young girl—and future matriarch —will witness unthinkable changes over the span of her extraordinary life. An evocation of a bygone India and of the passage of time itself, the book is a testament to progress in medicine, to human understanding, and to the difficulties undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today.

We are reading Candace Pert: Genius, Greed, and Madness in the World of Science by Pamela Ryckman. “Pert (1) discovered the opiate receptor (the mechanism by which opioids function in the brain), launching the opioid crisis, (2) proved the mind-body link, launching the field of integrative or functional medicine, and (3) created Peptide T, the underground AIDS drug featured in the film Dallas Buyers Club, and then went rogue, becoming a linchpin the the black market for her drug. Pert was sabotaged by mentors and colleagues keen to profit from her brilliance. But she too became tainted, believing that her noble ends would justify devious means. Like a mythic hero, she succumbed to a fatal flaw, and her greatest strengths - singularity of purpose and blind faith in her own virtuosity - would prove to be her undoing.” (From book cover)
