Colorado Wildfire Relief Fundraiser Happy Hour
Penn Quarter Sports Tavern
639 Indiana Ave, NW DC
Tuesday, July 3rd,
6-8 PM
Seeing coverage on the news about all the wildfires in Colorado this summer has been absolutely heartbreaking. People are losing their homes, and it will be many many years before the lands affected by the fire return to normal again.
The local chapter of the University of Colorado Boulder Alumni Association is holding a happy hour event at Penn Quarter today to raise money for wildfire relief. A 5 dollar wristband gets you $14 pitchers of Fat Tire, $4 pints, and extended happy hour specials. They will also be raffling off prizes, and they will be accepting additional donations at the event. All donations and proceeds will benefit the Colorado Red Cross.
Please RSVP to the event at dcbuffs@coloradoalum.org.
If you cannot attend the event, but would still like to donate, they have set up an online donation page as well.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT: STANFORD ALUMNI CONNECTION POTLUCK DINNER
Thank you to Yolanda Townsend, class of 1983, who opened her amazing home to us Saturday night, June 23rd, in Bethesda. Another Stanford Potluck was held, this time with a"business" theme. Fun was had by all as local Stanford alums — young and "seasoned" alike — got to know each other better in a great, casual atmosphere. Assembled were alums from the undergrad, masters, PhD and GSB programs who all had one thing in common: a fondness for Stanford and a desire to connect with other Stanford grads here in the DC area. All who participated left with new friends to follow up with.
The next themed potluck will be "Legal" and will tentatively be held on Saturday night, September 22nd. If you are willing to host or wish to attend please contact markskogan@gmail.com or kohntom@gmail.com.
Stanford In the News
- Stanford professor, Scott Hubbard, is overseeing the development of an asteroid early-detection system. The Sentinel Space Telescope will map the approximately half million large asteroids that populate the inner solar system. The observations could be used to identify threats decades in advance of an impending collision.
- A Stanford medical student, two alums and a scholar who will begin a joint degree program at the Graduate School of Business and the School of Education this fall have received Soros Fellowships, which honor and support the graduate educations of "New Americans." Each fellow receives tuition
and living expenses of up to $90,000 over two academic years.

- WDCSA Co-Ed Softball
Our Stanford softball team is in need of players – male and female. It is not too late to join this season. The quality of play is at moments brilliant and at other times hysterically pathetic, but we always have a good time! Interested alumni should send a note to wdcsasoftball@gmail.com. We have a particular need for women this season to complete our roster. We hope to see you this summer!
