You are cordially invited to an exclusive Stanford reception and discussion
with Stanford Trustee Rick West, JD ’71, Founding Director of the Smithsonian
National Museum of the American Indian.
Rick is a scholar whose vocation, personal philosophy, and passion are uniquely
aligned. Of Cheyenne Indian heritage, West has distinguished himself in his
career as a lawyer, lobbyist, fundraiser, historian and arts advocate. His
appointment as the Founding Director of the National Museum of the American
Indian (NMAI) in 1990, was the capstone of personal achievement. Having dedicated
his life to working with American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians,
West was a natural choice to lead the Museum where Native groups can tell
their history and celebrate their culture on their own terms.
