Sunday, June 24 2 pm
8th & F St, NW
Don’t miss a rare opportunity to visit the recently re-opened Smithsonian American Art Museum with one of the country’s most prominent art historians, Stanford Professor Wanda Corn. Professor Corn will guide 26 WDCSA members through the works of Saul Steinberg, acclaimed postwar artist of the New Yorker magazine. Steinberg’s work is described as "intensely personal, humorous and sharply observant of 20th-century life."
Professor Corn will offer introductory remarks in the SAAM Luce Center conference room on the third floor of the museum at 2 PM and then accompany the group through the exhibit. Cost is $8 and attendance is restricted to WDCSA members and their guests (maximum 2 guests per member). Please pay and RSVP in advance below or by sending a check made out to WDCSA to Lindsay Arnold, 1005 East Capitol St, SE, Washington, D.C. 20003 by June 18. Stanford Vintners Wine Tasting: Special Event for WDCSA Members
Saturday, July 21 4 – 6 pm
1200 First Street,
Local alumnus and wine expert Michael Zakaras ’04 will lead us through a tasting of wines produced by Stanford alumni that will suit many tastes and budgets!
Michael’s experience in the wine industry includes harvesting grapes in Burgundy and working with the Stanford and Santa Ynez Wineries. For his senior year history thesis examining the transformation of the California wine industry during the second half of the 20th century he interviewed California’s wine icon Robert Mondavi, among others. Michael works full time at an international NGO that supports social entrepreneurs, and squeezes in two evenings per week as the sommelier and wine educator at Bistro Bis in downtown Washington, DC.
We will meet on the top floor of the Meridian at Braddock, hosted by Neil Conway ’76. The cost will be $30 for WDCSA members, $20 for WDCSA Young Alumni members (Class of 2003-07). Each WDCSA member may bring a guest for the same price. Light sustenance will accompany the wine pours. Parking in the area is extremely limited. RSVP by July 16th and contact Risa Shimoda with questions firstname.lastname@example.org or 301-502-6548.
You are encouraged to travel by Metro! Entry: Someone will be in the lobby until 4:15. After that, call Neil 571-214-2077 and we’ll come get you.
WDCSA has 6 premium box seats in Aisle 36, Section 3 to all sessions; our seats are in the same location as last year – at the end of the court, close to the court and with access to the Courtside Club restaurant. We will allocate two onsite parking passes per session by lottery. The first Sunday will include main draw matches as well as qualifying matches. Andy Roddick, Marat Safin and the Bryan brothers (who attended Stanford from 1996-1998) will play.

Sun 7/29 10am – $23 (6 left)
