Sallie Mae Fund 10K Fundraiser
Sunday, May 16 8AM
West Potomac Park, Washington, DC
We currently have 11 people on our team for the annual Sallie Mae Fund
10K event which will raise funds for the DC College Access Program (DC-CAP),
which helps
DC public high school students enter
and graduate from college. Sallie Mae wants to attract alumni groups
to run in this year’s race. The winning school/alumni team gets $10,000
donated to their general scholarship fund. Second place will receive
$5000 and third place $2500. Not a fast runner? – the team ranking
results from the top two male and two female finishers on the team and
alumni teams that send 10 people to run in the race receive $100 and
another $100 for each 10 runners after that.
A special alumni tent will be set up, which will be a great opportunity
for groups to meet each other. If interested in running or cheering our
team on, please contact Vered Sharon at vered_sharon@hotmail.com. You
can find more information about the event at www.salliemae10k.org.

The Baltimore Book Club will be meeting next on 5/27 at the home of Jack

Falls Road. Turn left (North) on Falls Road to Lake Avenue (3rd light).
Turn right (East) on Lake and proceed to Hollins (at blind curve at top

discussion. 410-685-7558 or slclever@earthlink.net
Shakespeare Theater Free For All
Friday, May 28 7:30 PM
Much Ado about Nothing
Carter Barron Amphitheatre,
16th St. & Colorado Ave., NW
For Young Alumni (and young at heart), WDCSA has reserved 40 free tickets
for the May 28 Shakespeare performance of "Much Ado about Nothing" at
the newly refurbished Carter Barron Amphitheatre. This romantic comedy
offers up passion steeped in deception and spiced with satire. The saucy
Beatrice and the clever Benedick are one of the wittiest, most irresistible
duos known to the stage. Adorned with wordplay as sharp and sparkling
as fine cut glass, Shakespeare’s courtship of two couples cuts away the
romantic make-believe that shrouds true love. Lies, spies, a masked ball
and "merry wars" make this a hilarious romp. www.shakespearedc.org/ffa2004.html
To reserve tickets, email or call Juge Gregg (juge@stanfordalumni.org,
202-276-7297).

Stanford Alumni Board BBQ/Potluck,
Sunday, June 13th, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
2004-2005 WDCSA Co-Presidents Garry Tyran and
Risa Shimoda would like to invite everyone to a potluck BBQ at the home
of Charles Hokanson to kick off the summer.
Who? Anyone:
1. Who is presently on the Washington, DC Stanford Alumni Association Board
2. Who has been interested in organizing or assisting with events for 2004 – 2005,
but is unsure as to how to get involved
3. Who has volunteered for Stanford events and wants to remain involved
Why? This is an informal event for everyone to meet other board members
and prospective members and build on the terrific momentum we’ve established
during 2003-4. Your attendance will help us get an idea of who will be
helping us lead the WDCSA efforts this next season.
Where? 3000 Spout Run Parkway #B-605 (Cardinal House Condominium) Arlington,
VA 22201, Cell Phone of Charles Hokanson: 202-285-1023. Cardinal House
is located at the intersection of Lee Highway and Spout Run Parkway in
North Arlington.
Please RSVP to Charles Hokanson via e-mail (charles.hokanson@ed.gov),
and the week before the BBQ/Potluck he will e-mail those that are coming
to see what they might be able to bring. Also, Charles has a limited
number of pool passes – let him know if you’re interested in jumping
in!
Guest parking is the first row of parking nearest the street. Guests arriving
after 1:30 pm should call either Charles Hokanson at 202-285-1023 or
Risa Shimoda 301-502-6548 so someone can let them in and show them to
the pool area on the 4th floor.

Join volunteers from environmental organizations and others on Sat. June
19 starting at 8:30am to clean up Seneca Creek from Seneca Creek State

to make it canoe-accessible over this stretch. A picnic celebration will
follow. Leader: Jim Finucane 301/365-3485 before 9pm.
