Book: I’m a Stranger Here, Myself by Bill Bryson
Let’s start off 2004 with a fun and lively discussion next Sunday of Bill
Bryson’s "I’m a Stranger Here, Myself." Bryson lived in England for 20 years and then came back to the U.S., where he wrote a
column for a British paper about American life. The book is made up of
his columns, each just 4 pages and very funny. Pick it up at the library
or bookstore and you can read just a few of them. I’d start with "Number,
Please" and "Friendly People," which kind of go together,
and then "The War on Drugs."
We still need a place to meet this month! If you are near a Metro, and
are somewhat wheelchair accessible, then we want to join you! We’ll do
a potluck, as usual, and we’ll have a chance to chat as well as discuss
this fun and interesting book.
Please call Jessica Lehman at 301-641-2173 if you can help out or for
more information and directions.

Baltimore Stanford Book Club
Thursday, January 15 7 PM
Location: 1201 William St., Baltimore
Book: A Canticle for Leibowitz, by Walter M. Miller, Jr.
Theme snacks will be available.
From an Amazon.com review by Mariann Wood, an instructor of composition
at a MD college: "… really a spectacular book. Set about a
half a century after a devastating nuclear war, the book tells the story
of an abbey dedicated to Leibowitz, a scientist and engineer of the twentieth
century, who, upon the destruction of his world and life after the bomb
dropped, became devoted to the Church, and a bookrunner — one who gathers
texts to ensure the protection of history for the human race."
Please be in touch with Sarah Clever, ’91, 410-685-7558, for info & directions
to the January meeting. slclever@earthlink.net
