WDCSA Holiday Party
Sunday, December 10
7 p.m.

Please join us for one of the year’s merriest events — the annual WDCSA Holiday
Party held at the Stanford in Washington (SIW) campus.  This year’s catered
dinner features herb roasted beef with red wine gravy, rice pilaf, vegetables,
salad, rolls, and assorted desserts.  Those who attended last year will
tell you the dinner was delicious!

From the piano, WDCSA Vice President Charles Hokanson will lead everyone in a
rousing medley of Christmas and other holiday songs.  Charles has performed
at Stanford events for years as a student and alumnus, including at last year’s
holiday party and the SIW 10th Anniversary at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity for caroling.  Charles has
indicated he’ll do his best to take requests for your favorite songs of the
season.

All this for $19 per person.  The Stanford in Washington campus is located
at 2661 Connecticut Ave., NW, across the street from the Woodley Park Metro stop
on the Red Line.

Due to the need to provide an exact dinner count to the caterer, we must insist
on paid reservations in advance.  Please send a check made out to the
Washington D.C. Stanford Association and mail to Charles Hokanson, 3000 Spout
Run Pkwy #B-605, Arlington, VA 22201.  Checks must be received by Thursday,
December 7.  If there is ANY chance your check may arrive late, please call
or e-mail Charles at 703-351-1091 or charles_hokanson@stanfordalumni.org,
providing your name, phone number, and number of guests.

For some years, the annual Holiday Party has often been combined with an
afternoon concert.  This year, we recommend — but have not purchased group
tickets for — Handel’s Messiah at the Washington National Cathedral featuring
the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys with orchestra and soloists.  The
concert will be performed from 4-7 p.m. on December 10.  If you would like
to attend immediately before the holiday party, please contact the Cathedral at
202-537-5757. The best seats still available are in the back nave and east
transept, most of which are $28 each.  WDCSA President Callista Chen will
be attending the concert; contact her at 202-319-1841 or callista@stanfordalumni.org
if you’d like to arrange to buy tickets together.

Big Game Wrap-Up

Thanks to all the volunteers who made the Big Game party a success.  The
Cardinal won (yet again!) in a heart-stopping overtime finale.  Due to the
excitement and din of the game, the winners of the Stanford Big Game Trivia
Contest were awarded their prizes (gift certificates donated by the Capitol Hill
Brewing Company) but never announced. Let it be known throughout the land
that the 2000 trivia masters were as follows:

First Prize: Rafe Forland and Nora Bensahel

Second Prize: Beth Shinkman (with the help of Chuck Ludlam)

Third Prize (tie): David Bloomberg and Bill Allen
